The Framesi Smooth Treatment: What It Is, How It Works, and Who It's For
If you've ever spent 45 minutes blow-drying your hair straight only to walk outside and watch it puff right back up, you already understand the problem the Framesi Smooth Treatment is designed to solve. Frizz and unmanageable texture are among the most common complaints I hear from clients at Tim's Teazz — and in Colorado's dry, high-altitude climate, the problem is often worse than it would be at lower elevations. Here's everything you need to know about this treatment and whether it's right for you.
What the Framesi Smooth Treatment actually does. The treatment works by temporarily relaxing the hydrogen bonds in the hair shaft — the bonds responsible for your hair's natural texture and curl pattern. A smoothing solution is applied to clean, dry hair, then sealed in with heat. The result is hair that is significantly smoother, shinier, and more manageable. It doesn't permanently straighten the hair the way a traditional relaxer does; it softens and smooths the texture while preserving some of the natural movement. The difference in daily styling time is dramatic for most clients.
How long does it last? Results typically last 8 to 12 weeks, depending on your hair type, how often you wash, and how you care for the treatment at home. Coarser, thicker hair tends to hold the results longer than fine hair. Using a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner extends the life of the treatment significantly — sulfates break down the smoothing bonds faster than anything else. I carry the Framesi home care line at Tim's Teazz specifically because it's formulated to work with professional treatments like this one.
Who is it for? The Framesi Smooth Treatment works best on clients with frizzy, wavy, or lightly curly hair who want to reduce styling time and improve manageability without losing all of their natural texture. It's also excellent for clients with color-treated hair — unlike some older smoothing treatments, the Framesi formula is gentle enough to use on highlighted or bleached hair without causing damage. If you have very tightly coiled hair and want a dramatic straightening result, this may not be the right treatment — we'd have a conversation about what's realistic for your specific hair type before booking.
What to expect during the appointment. The service takes approximately 2 to 3 hours depending on hair length and thickness. Your hair will be washed, dried, and then the smoothing solution is applied section by section. After processing, the hair is blow-dried and flat-ironed to seal in the treatment. You'll leave the salon with noticeably smoother, shinier hair — and the results continue to improve over the first 48 hours as the treatment fully sets.
The 48-hour rule. For the first 48 hours after the treatment, you should not wash your hair, put it in a ponytail, tuck it behind your ears, or do anything that would crease or bend it. The treatment is still setting during this window, and any pressure or moisture can leave marks or reduce the longevity of the results. I know 48 hours feels like a long time, but it's worth it — clients who follow this rule consistently get better results that last longer.
